Driving progress: Micropositioning systems and optomechanical components

With this vision, Rüdiger Ruh joined OWIS in 2018 – initially as Managing Director. The takeover then followed in 2021. Since January 1, 2021, he has been the Managing Partner of OWIS GmbH.

As an engineer (precision engineering) and with professional experience in development and management, he recognized the unique potential of the company. As a person who is enthusiastic about technology and can infect others with his enthusiasm, he revived the OWIS competencies and sharpened here and there.

Today, we at OWIS convince with a unique setup. Together we develop components and solutions for the challenging tasks of the high-tech industries and make groundbreaking ideas come true.

This fills us with pride. As a medium-sized, owner-managed company based in Staufen im Breisgau (Germany), we develop and manufacture high-precision products and solutions for industrial companies and scientific institutions worldwide.

Our strengths lie in laser technology. That is why we have been appreciated in measurement and testing technology, research and science, the semiconductor industry, biotechnology and medical technology, image processing and sensor technology, analytics and diagnostics for decades.

At our Staufen site, we continuously invest in renewable energy, efficient processes, and a work environment that supports our employees. Our photovoltaic system, heat recovery solutions, and the use of 100% green electricity are key components – alongside measures that help us reduce energy use and lower emissions step by step.

Since 2023, we have been part of the Zielgerade2030 initiative, and since 2024, we have been a Klimawin BW company. This commits us to reporting transparently on our progress and reviewing our actions regularly. This includes not only climate protection, but also employee well-being and regional engagement.

As a training company, we guide young people as they start their careers. We also support regional initiatives—such as our mobility partnership with the Nordic Paraski junior team, to help create fair opportunities for young talent.

It's not quite that trivial - but we want to create the best conditions for this with our commitment. In line with our forward-looking strategy, we are increasingly contributing our knowledge and experience to research into new technologies and solutions in photonics.
