Driving progress: Micropositioning systems and optomechanical components

With this vision, Rüdiger Ruh joined OWIS as Managing Director in 2018. He took over the company in 2021 and has been Managing Partner of OWIS GmbH since January 1, 2021.

As a precision engineer with experience in development and management, he recognized the potential of OWIS’ established expertise. With a clear strategy for the company’s future, he built on this solid foundation by systematically advancing the proven OWIS modular product range and complementing it with comprehensive engineering capabilities.

Today, we combine more than 1,200 standard components with our engineering expertise. Drawing on both, we develop customized solutions for demanding applications in high-tech industries. Together, we continue to push technical boundaries and make groundbreaking ideas a reality.

This fills us with pride. As a medium-sized, owner-managed company based in Staufen im Breisgau (Germany), we develop and manufacture high-precision products and solutions for industrial companies and scientific institutions worldwide.

Our strengths lie in laser technology. That is why we have been appreciated in measurement and testing technology, research and science, the semiconductor industry, biotechnology and medical technology, image processing and sensor technology, analytics and diagnostics for decades.

At our Staufen site, we continuously invest in renewable energy, efficient processes, and a work environment that supports our employees. Our photovoltaic system, heat recovery solutions, and the use of 100% green electricity are key components – alongside measures that help us reduce energy use and lower emissions step by step.

Since 2023, we have been part of the Zielgerade360 initiative, and since 2024, we have been a Klimawin BW company. This commits us to reporting transparently on our progress and reviewing our actions regularly. This includes not only climate protection, but also employee well-being and regional engagement.

As a training company, we guide young people as they start their careers. We also support regional initiatives—such as our mobility partnership with the Nordic Paraski junior team, to help create fair opportunities for young talent.

It's not quite that trivial - but we want to create the best conditions for this with our commitment. In line with our forward-looking strategy, we are increasingly contributing our knowledge and experience to research into new technologies and solutions in photonics.
