What does OWIS actually mean?
OWIS GmbH, a private limited company, was founded in 1980 in Staufen im Breisgau in Germany. The vision was to offer a standardized construction kit, which considerably facilitates the construction of optical measuring and laboratory arrangements. So, from the beginning, it was about the development and manufacturing of "optical scientific systems" – in German: "optische wissenschaftliche Systeme". In search for a catchy company name, this wording was simplified. The OWIS GmbH was born.
OWIS Products quickly convinced users from industry and research. Precisely manufactured and extremely reliable in use, OWIS Components have since facilitated handling. The rail-slide principal developed by OWIS revolutionized the work of physicists, researchers and developers.
Over the last four decades, the OWIS Modular System has been continuously expanded in cooperation with customers and partners: from manual over motorized positioners to components and systems designed for applications in the extremely high vacuum (XHV range).
Today, OWIS is an institution when it comes to optical beam handling systems and positioners – at home and around the world. And we at OWIS have big plans. Because we are convinced: with the OWIS Components and our know-how we can still bring a lot of light into dark corners. And we can be sure – lasers love OWIS.
